02.25Trekking Ecuador
Trekkers interested in the Andes should come to Ecuador. Although the Andes span the entire South America when it comes to a variety of treks available Ecuador will rival any destination in the Andes and the rest of the world.
If you are looking for a trekking adventure you have no doubt considered treks to Mount Everest or trekking in Bhutan. Everest base camp trek is a special trek as is the Mount Chomolhari trek in Bhutan but both destinations mean you have to fly on the other side of the world, which is not the lowest cost proposition. In today’s economy you have to chose wisely, and from that standpoint Ecuador makes all the sense.
For those interested in the culture and legacy of the Incas, a trek not to miss is Ecuador’ El Camino del Inca trek to the Inca Sun temple at Ingapirca, the most prominent Inca settlement in Ecuador.
One of the most scenic treks in the Andes of Ecuador is the circuit of the Chimborazo volcano, Ecuador’s highest mountain. In fact Chimborazo is considered the highest mountain in the world as it’s summit is the farthest from the earth’s center, and towering to an awesome elevation of 20,705 feet above sea level.
Another popular trek in Ecuador is the route from Papallacta to Cotopaxi, a trek that skirts the three stunning peaks of Sincholagua, Antisana and Cotopaxi. For encounters with wildlife, from wild horses to condors this trek is must-do for any outdoor enthusiast.
Last but not least is the Pinan Lakes trek, a rewarding four nights, five days trek that starts from San Francisco de Sachapama and includes an ascent of Yanaurco de Pinan volcano, a scenic peak with magnificent views of the some three dozen Pinan lakes below.
To make the most of your journey, include a trek in Ecuador on your next South American adventure!
